Category: Geeks r Us
Ok, so I have a major crap-ton of picture files that I need to rename. I'd like to label them with descriptions of what's in the picture so I can use them to make DVD's, post some to facebook, etc. There's nothing more embarrassing than posting a picture of something only to realize it isn't a picture of what I thought it was.
Here's what I'd really like to do. I would like to create an audio file of someone describing what's in each picture that could be somehow tied to the picture file so I can rename the file at a later time. This would save my mom, who'll be describing the photos, lots of time and tedium.
Does this make any sense at all? Is such a thing possible? If not, I guess what I'll do is just have a recorder going and have her describe the picture. After that, I'll hit the title command so the recorder will pick up Jaws saying the file name, like IMG100, and then go back and play the recording and rename the files that way. I'm just hoping for a more high tech sollution. lol
Thanks for any advice.
Not easily. The only way would be to merge them in a video, with recordings as a soundtrack. This would be long, because you would have to coordinate the image breaks with sound breaks. Best just to record and go back later.
That's what I thought.
Thanks very much.
See, that's why I always come here.
You can name the files of course right?
So other then what has been posted, how about creating a folder with the picture file inside, and a word file with its description. You name the folder what you want to call it. Sort of like music files. You have the artist, inside the artist folder is albums, and inside the albums are songs.
This way you will know exactly what the picture is and can post the description as well.
What I usually do is rename the file with a brief description. Fore example, my profile pic on Facebook is a picture of my dog when he retired. He's standing in a field of bluebonnets and is wearing his harness. The file is titled (Digby in bluebonnets.)
I was basically just looking for a quicker way to get the initial descriptions done. I don't want my mom to have to sit there while I come up with a file name, etc. Having a word file containing written descriptions is a great idea though for quick reference so I very well may create something like that. Not a bad idea.
It would be really cool if someone would come up with an audio component to go with Windows Photo Gallory so that when a photo is displayed, an audio file plays as well. Ahh, if only I were a better geek. So many ideas and so little geeky knowledge. lol
I have a question.
You talked about Windows Photo Gallery. Is this program accessible?
If so, the directions say you can add tags, and captions to your pictures, and the program even creates a list.
If Photo Gallery is accessible and you do this wouldn’t your captions or tags be spoken when you scroll through your list by your screen reader?
Here is where I saw this information.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-live/photo-gallery-get-started?T1=t3
I personally don’t use photos, so have no experience with this program, but I suspect if you press alt or applications on a picture you’d find the controls?
Just some thoughts.
I'll check it out. Thanks for the link.
The basic analog to this would be a small video playing the sound file and displaying the given image onscreen while doing so. Current still image formats (bmp, jpeg, gif, png, etc.) do not do this because they do not want to store such unneeded data. Thus, you would be better advised to make a piece of software to combine them in a video file.
